Earliest Fishing Memory:
I am the only one who remembers this, so I am unsure if it is even true. So I guess if you believe it long enough, it’s true enough. The family was staying down at Indian Point resort on Table Rock in about 1980-1 or so. I had my trusty Snoopy rod and reel combo-standard issue for a 2 year old that’s as timeless as marabou jigs. Well, it seems I hadn’t quite accepted the amount of patience and time it takes to catch a fish (no it wasn’t last week, jerkfaces). So my mom got frustrated with my whining, casted it out and caught a sunfish almost immediately in one of the boat slips. Again, even my mom doesn’t remember this, but in the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, “When the legend becomes truth..Print the Legend”

Favorite Fishing Story:
Stay tuned, this one will be a blog post for sure, maybe a book someday.

Favorite Fishing Partner:
I don’t have a favorite, it took me a long time to realize that there is plenty of room in my boat for even you to fish with me. Just sit down, shut up, laugh at my jokes, and catch less fish than me.
Ok, in no particular order, the OFG (Original Fly Guy) and his backup singers, my brother in law, Rob, my dad, my daughter, my brother in law, Jeff, my uncle Pete and aunt Marcia, Larry –you’ll learn more about him on another date, Phil Lilley (just a couple times, but just watching Phil fish a jig is symphonic), my uncle John, and my sisters. So my family, and a few others. Yea, so that wasn’t hard.

One person you would like to fish with (dead or alive):
Woo, that’s a tough one. I can tell you a class of people I would not like to fish with – politicians. I think I’d have to do an NCAA tournament style bracket to come up with this. In fact, I am going to do a longer post on this specific question in the coming weeks.

Who/What got you started fishing?
I guess my dad, I don’t really remember since I don’t remember not fishing.

What is your favorite fishing spot in Missouri?
Taneycomo and Bennett Springs

What is your favorite lure/fly/technique?
My favorite is a jig and float on fly rod. I’m best at jigging on a spinning rod.

What is your favorite species to fish for?
Trout.

What percent of the time do you catch and release?
About 95%. Unless I can cook ‘em that day, I don’t do it.

What is the weirdest thing that you have seen on the water?
Every time I look at the water, I see my reflection, so me. Though the OFG and I saw a murder of turkey vultures fill up the branch of a dead tree, questioned if the tree would hold and later hear the branch break, and a bunch of confused turkey vultures scramble around. Imagined several saying, “I told you it wouldn’t hold”. Probably the last one to land said, “hold my beer, watch this”.
Also, have had a beaver swim under my fly line.

What is one place that you want to fish in Missouri, but haven’t before?
Well, I would like to plan a trip either starting in St. Louis and hitting every trout stream, trout park, and river with trout, ending at Roaring River State Park.
