Watkins Mill Fishing Report

It was a beautiful day on Tuesday so Waylon and I decided to do a little fishing at Watkins Mill State Park.  I was hopeful to catch the lake as it was "waking up" but we were still a little early.  I tried for crappie along the dam, but didn't get a bite.  I tried some other shoreline hoping to find some fish warming up in the shallows and while I found some baitfish, I didn't get a bite.  It wasn't until I started fishing the west side of the lake near the swimming beach where I finally started to pick up a few.  I picked up a small bass, a few bluegill, and a SOLID 9 inch redear sunfish.

I went with a jig under an indicator but I'm excited to switch to streamers here really soon.  Eventually the bigger fish will be chasing bait and gorging themselves on whatever they can find but until that time, slow baits is the name of the game.  On the other hand, I did run into a guy that said he caught a 9 pound bass.  I'm not sure what he caught it on but this is a darn good sign that the dinner bell is going to ring soon!  Each warmer, longer day we have will help usher in some of the best fishing that we will have all year long.

Shedd Aquarium in Chicago

Whether you are a passionate angler or are even remotely interested in fish, I really think you would dig a trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.  There are freshwater fish, saltwater fish, and other critters that simply live around water.  We saw sharks, rays, and skates.  There were familiar fish that I have caught, some fish that I have only seen on screens, and fish I had never even heard of before.  It was definitely worth the price of admission (about $40), and I would go back without hesitation.  So if you ever find yourself in the Chicago area, you might kick the tires on this place.  I give it a 5 star review and a "highly recommend".

Trip to Chicago

Yesterday, I got back from a short trip to Chicago.  The wife and I took Collin and one of his friends there to see a Chicago Bulls game.  She got free suite tickets to see the Bulls play the Cleveland Cavaliers and it was AMAZING!  We got free VIP parking, free food and drinks, and got to see the Bulls defeat the Cavs.  I even got the chance to meet former pro bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb!  We also got to see the Chicago River dyed green (does that mean all the fish turn green too?), some amazing architecture, and so many iconic landmarks.  I will post about one of those tomorrow (hint, there's a fishy theme to that post), but for today, here's a few pictures that I thought you might find interesting.
