Failed Salmon Experiement Led to Trout...in Missouri?

This article is fascinating and contains a lot of historical information that I was completely oblivious to.  If you fish for trout in Missouri, this is a great history lesson.  If you don't fish for trout, it still has some interesting history as it pertains to the United States government trying to manage fisheries.  The government did a lot of experimenting and a few of the successes and failures are documented like trying to stock Atlantic salmon in the Missouri River in Kansas City thinking that the fish would having spawning runs all the way to the Gulf of Mexico!  Spoiler alert: nobody fishing the Missouri River for salmon these days for a good reason.
