Alligator gar aren't common in my neck of the woods around the Kansas City area. As far east as Kansas, not only are they rare, they are nonexistent...or should I say WERE nonexistent. In September of 2021, the first alligator gar ever caught on record in Kansas was landed by an angler on the Neosho River. It was a pretty good sized one too. This is an interesting story that leaves scientists and anglers with more questions than answers though.
