Disclaimer: I thought long and hard about whether I should post this announcement. In one hand, I didn’t want to sound prideful and didn’t want to brag. On the other hand, I wanted to share something that was important and special to me. I ultimately decided to share this info but I hope it doesn’t come off as conceited and/or self absorbed.
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by my friend Tyler Schwartze who just happens to be the director of the Conservation Federation of Missouri. He informed me that I had been nominated for the 2020 CFM Conservation Communicator of the Year Award. He told me that my resume had been placed with other nominees in front of a panel of judges and that I had been selected as the recipient of the award. To say I was shocked would be a gross understatement. First, I didn’t even know the award existed. Second, I didn’t know that I had been nominated. Finally, I didn’t know what was going to occur as a result of winning such an award.
To make a long story short, what happened next was nothing short of humbling. I recorded an acceptance speech, had my family around me to watch the virtual awards program (which can be found below), and received MANY congratulatory messages from some very kind people. To me, those messages were as special as anything else that happened during the awards ceremony. Speaking of the ceremony, Nathan "Shags" McLeod and Trevor Morgan (of 96.7 KCMQ morning radio show in Columbia, Missouri) did a phenomenal job as hosts of the program. There were some amazing people that got to tell some amazing stories that night. Some will make you laugh and some will make you cry, but they will all make you appreciate how a life spent enjoying the outdoors and promoting conservation is a life full of worth and appreciation for what the natural world has to offer. My buddy Colton, who works for CFM and nominated me for the award, will be bringing my trophy by in the next couple of weeks and I will share it with you when I get a chance. Thank you Colton, Tyler, and all of the CFM staff for an amazing event that I will always cherish and remember.
